The result is the three-part story View from the Vault. Story of the Century: Piper asks the Sole Survivor to join her in her office after meeting them at the gate, as she wants to interview them for an article in Publick Occurrences. She makes up a story about the Sole Survivor being a trader in order to be let back in. Jewel of the Commonwealth: Piper is encountered stuck outside Diamond City after Danny Sullivan closed the gate by order of the mayor.Interactions with the player character Interactions overview Interactions She despises any pro-Brotherhood choices the Sole Survivor takes. She is sympathetic to the plight of synths and has an open dislike for the Brotherhood of Steel due to their self-serving nature, technology hoarding, anti-synth policies, and in her eyes, lousy fashion sense. Ironically, she generally dislikes it when the Sole Survivor lies. She is shown to not be above lying and manipulating others in order to get what she wants, such as when she tried to use the Sole Survivor to regain access to Diamond City after being banned from the town. Adding to her reckless nature, she may also be seen smoking occasionally. She tends to enjoy sarcasm.ĭespite multiple death threats and an assassination attempt, finding herself in sticky situations is a point of pride for Piper, who feels getting into trouble is just part of chasing the truth. She is highly perceptive, however, and was able to deduce the mayor was a synth. Her tendency to find the latest scoop and the truth can cause others to find her nosy and annoying, however, resulting in her having few friends. Piper has a rapport with Nick Valentine as they both are investigators. She has a strong drive to better the world and does not want to be complacent, causing her to become a writer in order to try to reduce the corruption within the town. Piper is a rather lonely woman who feels isolated in Diamond City. She was able to escape the cult before being discovered as an imposter. Piper briefly joined the Church of the Children of Atom by faking a vision of Atom as a ruse to prevent her own execution. In response, McDonough banned Piper from the city, saying the article is all lies, although Piper is determined to get back inside the city. Recently, Piper has written a controversial article containing an interview with Eustace Hawthorne called The Synthetic Truth accusing Diamond City's mayor McDonough of secretly being a synth, although she has no concrete evidence, only speculation about events such as where the mayor has eaten his noodles. She began to feel that Nat was the only one she could count on. People began to actively avoid her, treating her less like a friend and more like a nosy snoop. Her fervor for discovering the truth made her popular for a while, but eventually, public opinion turned against her because her articles were seen as being "too negative" which caused her to get into a lot of trouble. She started her newspaper out of a desperate attempt to begin improving life in the city. She quickly found out that there was a lot "wrong" about Diamond City, from crooked guards to failing infrastructure. Įventually, Piper and Nat saved enough money to relocate to Diamond City, where she began her career as an investigative journalist. When the raiders eventually showed up expecting the gate to be wide open, they instead encountered prepared defenses by alerted townsfolk and were driven away. The settlers, outraged by the story, exiled Mayburn. The conspicuously public accusation got the attention of the town's mayor, who accepted Piper's evidence. Piper then created and circulated wanted posters featuring the captain and a list of his crimes. The local authorities did not believe her claims and refused to investigate. His superior, Captain Mayburn, arranged to leave the main gate open and unguarded one night to allow raiders access in exchange for a cut of the loot and had Piper's father murdered to keep him silent. After her father was found dead under suspicious circumstances, Piper learned that he had discovered a raider plot to sack the town. Piper grew up in a small community on the outskirts of the Commonwealth with Nat and their father, a member of the local militia. 3 Interactions with the player character.

The event will be arriving on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One at a later date. Hunt: Showdown and the “Tide of Shadows” event is available now on PC via Steam. Jupiter Hell, created by developer ChaosForge, is a direct descendent of DoomRL, a classic roguelike heavily inspired by id Software's classic FPS series. “Tide of Shadows” also brings a new Battle Pass with both free and premium pathways. Published Jupiter Hell is an engaging and commendable recreation of DOOM's style in turn-based roguelike form that will please just about everyone. Event Points can be exchanged for a wide range of rewards throughout the Live Event. People have been mentioning that they missed the last demo, so this is just a short info - we're doing another (last) free DEMO weekend for Jupiter Hell Check it out if you didn't already, and if you did, we have juicy updates (new branch opened, weapon mods, UI upgrade and others). To help rack up Event Points, Hunters can take advantage of new single-use “Burn Traits,” which are only available for the duration of the event, offering players new ways to play. To unlock further rewards during the event, players must earn Event Points, awarded for completing a range of in-game challenges and by interacting with or destroying new Ship Altars scattered around the Bayou. Each pact has in-depth lore about their origins and aims to be discovered, as well as new Legendary Weapons and Equipment associated with the three factions available to unlock. The “Tide of Shadows” event also introduces new Pacts for players to pledge towards for their Hunter – the Primal Pact, Smuggler Pact, and Grounded Pact. Players must make decisions on the fly about how to approach and dispatch this giant croc, earning a Bounty Token if they succeed. Designed for a new gameplay experience, Rotjaw will force Hunters to improvise while defending in the wide open spaces. Instead, she lurks in the waters of the Bayou. Unlike other Boss enemies in the game, Rotjaw will not be found inside a compound. The new live event introduces a new Boss category in the Wild Target, with Rotjaw being the first. “Tide of Shadows” features new challenges, gameplay, weapons, story, and a new boss in Rotjaw for the duration of the event, which runs until August 23. After teasing some of the goodies in the upcoming “Tide of Shadows” live event for Hunt: Showdown earlier this month, Crytek has kicked off the event today. The Bearer of Bad News may be a sad, introspective album, but Shauf's lyrical poeticism and multidimensional musicality are what sets it apart from others of its ilk. His clever and often dissonant clarinet and string orchestrations on songs like "I'm Not Falling Asleep" and "The Man on Stage" add a richness of color that belies the album's generally somber tone. APE is the exclusive promoter for the Greek Theatre. From the dead-string strumming of the buoyant opener "Hometown Hero" to the foreboding creep of "Wendell Walker," he paints a descriptive picture of small-town life and lonesome folks looking inward with desolate lines like "Now this past winter was the coldest in years/It's hard to explain if you've never lived here." Shauf's brand of Canadiana is rooted in folk music, but the sophistication of his arrangements reveals a keen pop sensibility that saves it from wallowing too deeply in the sepia-toned doldrums. The Party Review by Timothy Monger + By the time Andy Shaufs lonesome prairie pop debut, Bearer of Bad News, had reached the rest of the world, the Saskatchewan native had nearly completed recording his similarly intricate follow-up. The 11 tracks here are decidedly rustic at heart, with a hushed, Spartan feeling akin to early Elliott Smith albums, an acknowledged influence of Shauf's. Recorded in his basement in Regina, Saskatchewan over the course of two years and written over four, it has the deep, refined feeling of being worked on, but not overworked. This is everything.Like the long, cold prairie winters during which it was recorded, Andy Shauf's sophomore LP, The Bearer of Bad News, is both grim and beautiful, bearing the kind of weary warmth of a bedroom lamp lit after a five p.m. This is the whole thought - the untamed truth. I n the beginning of 2020, Andy Shauf released his sixth studio record The Neon Skyline, a smokey concept album centered around a small-town bar and its various occupants. This section, which Living DNA calls “Family Networks,” shows which other Living DNA customers appear to be biologically related to you (and how). 23andMe does something very similar with its presentations of maternal and paternal migration paths. I like the Living DNA’s visual representation which combines a textual historical narrative (on the left) with very clear pictorial population migration lines (on the right). This agrees with analysis by 23andMe, so I conclude that both companies are probably correct.Īnalysis of my Y-DNA associates me with paternal haplogroup J2 (subclade J-M92) which identifies ancestors who migrated around Iberia, the Middle East, and Africa like this:Īgain, this analysis agrees with 23andMe. Maternal and Paternal MigrationsĪnalysis of my mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) associates me with maternal haplogroup H (subclade H2a) which identifies ancestors who migrated around Europe, the Middle East, and Africa as shown here: You can click on any of the listed ethnicities to learn more about those historic populations. One thing I really appreciated about Living DNA’s reports was the storytelling and historical context. This is likely why these results seemed less accurate than what I had received in other reports. AncestryDNA and 23andMe’s ethnicity estimates include 1,000+ geo-regions, while Living DNA’s reports only have 150. However, it’s important to note that Living DNA analyzes far fewer geo-regions than some of its competitors. There’s also plenty of anecdotal evidence that I have some East Asian heritage, which has been corroborated by other DNA tests I’ve taken.įor these reasons, I doubt the precision of Living DNA’s ancestry assessments. I know that my father’s side of the family is pretty much 100% Ashkenazi Jewish. This is strange since other DNA tests have told me that I’m about half European (fine), half Ashkenazi Jewish (not identified here), and 3% Asian (not indicated at all). Recent Ancestryīy “recent ancestry,” Living DNA doesn’t just mean a few generations this report includes familial information for the past 500 years! In addition to telling me that I am 32.4% Germanic and 13.4% Northeast European/Baltic, the results also indicated that 28% of my ancestors came from the Near East (especially Turkey): Which of these things does Living DNA do, and how well? Let’s take a tour of the ancestry report, starting with the Recent Ancestry section. Some companies – including Living DNA – also analyze your Y-DNA (if you’re male) and your mitochondrial DNA (whatever sex you are) to tell you about your ancient paternal and maternal family lines, respectively.Īncestry-based DNA testing companies also typically tell you if your DNA matches other members recorded in their customer databases, so that you can track down potential relatives. To help you decide, I did the hard work of sending in a sample and writing about my personal experience with the ancestry and wellbeing combo test.ĭNA-based ancestry reports typically tell you what ethnicities and geographical regions lie in your family’s past, according to the autosomal DNA that has been inherited from both parents. But, of course, this doesn’t mean that the tests are right for everyone. One of the things I really appreciate about Living DNA is how the company is continually making new features and offerings available. These tests can be purchased individually as standalone ancestry or well-being kits, or as a combined package, offering comprehensive insights derived from both tests. Consequently, customers now have the option to select from three distinct LivingDNA tests, catering to various budgets and interests, while providing insights into both ancestry and wellness. Initially, LivingDNA exclusively provided an ancestry DNA test however, the company has since expanded its offerings to include the “Wellbeing” diet and fitness test. Nevertheless, LivingDNA presents convenient at-home DNA test kits that grant users valuable information about their ancestry and overall well-being. Although the extensive collaboration implies the potential for exceptional outcomes, the effectiveness of this approach remains a subject of debate. LivingDNA is a genetic testing company based in the UK, which emerged from the collaborative efforts of over 100 esteemed scientists, academic researchers, and genetic experts worldwide. |
